The purpose of the work of Manav Seva Sannidhi is to alleviate the physical, emotional, and economic suffering of fellow
human beings unfortunate enough to have lost a limb. To accomplish the first, the organization’s camps supply residents with
the prostheses and accompanying training upon them. Often, the process of fitting and learning to use artificial limbs is
difficult and painful. The expert craftsmen of Manav Seva Sannidhi’s camps fit each prosthesis to their recipients
personally. Training is provided in a one-on-one, hands-on approach by the camps’ highly trained volunteers, many of whom
were once residents. The emotional component begins here, with the focus on personal, friendly involvement in healing. In
addition, a sense of community and collegiality is encouraged in the camps, with residents, volunteers and support staff
eating together, relaxing together, often dancing and singing together to close the night. And the organization performs the
last part of its mission by not only empowering each of its residents to proudly return to a life of providing for
themselves, a place they might return to give back to others like themselves, but also by providing budding volunteers,
workers, and philanthropists a place to rally and convene. Manav Seva Sannidhi has already spread well beyond its humble
beginnings, but its work has just begun.
